This is a great park. Campsites are tight. (close together) No direct access to the water from any of the sites, but there is a private campers dock with room for 8 or so boats, down a ramp in the middle of the campground. Take a hike or ride your bike down the 15 mile trail and see the suspension bridges. Pretty awesome. I rode only 4 miles of the trail to see one of the suspension bridges; ended up with a loop of about 9 miles, and counted 35+ wooden bridges. Rode across 25 to get thru the first 4 miles. Crossed another 10+ on the trip around the other part of the loop. This park is definately worth checking out. Didn't get to check out the lake, wind was too high. Maybe next trip. There are also 6 GeoCaches in the park.

Has anyone ever been to this camp site? I am thinking about using it as a base camp when I go out tramping in the area. I have read that there is no water but that's OK - I can bring my own water. I was wondering about the general condition of the place and how much traffic it gets. I really wouldn't want to sleep at a high school party zone. I've been, though it's been awhile. It's in generally good repair, small, quiet. The foundations of an old CCC camp are there. It might get more use during turkey season. |

This is a nice little park. Although the boat sank a couple of weeks ago, you can still tour the court house, play in the river, play with your kids in the playground or just hang out at your campsite. And don't forget to hunt for the GeoCache. One of 52 in the park system challange.

Stayed another week at DD this past November 2009. This is fast becoming my favorite camp site in Arkansas, but there are still many more to visit.
Hit more of the trails on this trip - some of the valley views and rock formations on Yellow Rock are spectacular. Nice easy trail. Crawled through the cave on the Devil's Den trail. Literally, crawled in some places. Pretty tight squeeze in a couple spots, too. They weren't kidding about taking a really good flashlight - take the biggest and brighest that you can easily carry with one hand, or get one of those fancy head-mounts. Fascinating trip, though. Bats were hibernating. There's a new "general store" on Hwy. 74 towards Winslow that has a few of the essentials items you might need, but not much else. One of the best parts of the trip was ... cooking. Learned how to make peach cobbler in the dutch oven. |

We've changed the registration settings, which should make it more difficult for spammers to get through.

We're going to head out along the Ozark Highland Trail but we haven't decide just where yet.
Last weekend me and my 10 year old son went exploring Spirits Creek and had a great time with beautiful weather. |
