Jacksonport State Park is a place where you can get in touch with the Old South as it used to exist in the Delta of East Arkansas.  Jacksonport features the old Jackson County Courthouse and the Mary Woods No. 2 steamboat, both of which have been renovated as museums.  The area was a noted riverport during the Civil War, and some Confederate regiments surrendered there.

The campground itself comprises a relatively small area in the expanded park, but most of the sites are shaded and all have hookups.  The bathhouses, on stilts due to occasional high water, are generally clean and accessible.  An extremely long beach along White River, should amuse the kids, but, like in all
rivers, keep an eye on them due to the current.  The picnic area and playground at the far end of the park is a great place to spend a day.

Defenders of the short-sighted men who in their greed and selfishness will, if permitted, rob our country of half its charm by their reckless extermination of all useful and beautiful wild things sometimes seek to champion them by saying the 'the game belongs to the people.' So it does; and not merely to the people now alive, but to the unborn people. The 'greatest good for the greatest number' applies to the number within the womb of time, compared to which those now alive form but an insignificant fraction. --Theodore Roosevelt

This is a nice park, very open areas for playing or tossing a football. The picnic areas are wonderful, under great shade trees, and usually has a nice breeze of the river.  It also has a nice playground/swingset and sandboxareas for kids.  I recommend it more as a day trip or for a gathering at one of the pavilions, but the camping is not bad.  It also has just enough of historical interest (paddlewheel boat and courthouse/museum) to be educational.  All in all a great place to visit.

This is a nice little park.  Although the boat sank a couple of weeks ago, you can still tour the court house, play in the river, play with your kids in the playground or just hang out at your campsite.  And don't forget to hunt for the GeoCache.  One of 52 in the park system challange. Wink
